The Circus Rolls On!
November 21st 2008 11:16
Sadly, Piano Circus has had to cancel (or postpone, not quite sure which) their Windsor gig for the 15th of this month which promised, amongst others, a piece by Steve Reich and the fabulous Lynne Plowman who we all know for delivering very do-able opera; in fact her stuff’s more fun than a ‘Carry On’ movie! And, my word, this group has been around for ever such a long time – 3 girls and 3 boys - though as one would imagine not quite the same individuals as when (according to legend) the inspiration to perform Reich’s Six Pianos in 1989 formed the springboard for this ensemble. They, like so many others, have suffered the drought of dwindling arts funding budgets as fads and fashions swing all over the place – yet still, thankfully, they manage to survive – not only by introducing us to new composers but also by producing a substantial catalogue of recordings that has us coming back to our CD players for another listen. And, how many classically trained musicians can you think of that boast polarizing an audience to such a point that the performance almost has to stop because of a rowdy punch-up!! Hopefully this gig will be rescheduled sometime soon and, for goodness sake, keep an eye out for them if you can make it to a gig, regardless if you feel in the mood for a brawl or not!
