Gettin' Brahms n Liszt

A predominantly classical music mag that I was having a thumb through the other day, had a whimsical little piece about an Ohioan rap music fan brought before a court for “rap cruising” ...OK, never heard of that one before so sat down with Google fired up, typed in said phrase and clicked the magic wand search button – but not a reference could I find anywhere! Interestingly enough, I came across the rap equivalent of Wiktionary addressed as rapdict.org (interestingly enough…..) and even there I could only find references to “cruise” without the “rap” prefix - illustrated with lyrics such as "Sittin’ back cruising through the slow breeze" or "Me and my boys go cruisin' for honeys"
I thought, hmmmm, surely one can’t end up in court for enjoying the breeze and appraising the honey situation, even in Ohio… but of course that’s jumping the gun! As one gets to the end of the article it all becomes clear – the judge, whilst reflecting “I think a lot of people don't like to be forced to listen to music”, gave the accused two options: pay an $150 fine or reduce it to $35 and listen to twenty hours of Brahms, Beethoven and Chopin. Apparently, after fifteen minutes chained to the headphones, he decided it was too much and was off saying he’d rather pay the fine! Thinking about it, I can’t help feeling he did rather well! A threat of twenty hours of Brahms, Beethoven and Chopin would have me reaching for the gin bottle!
